A lifelong resident of Carlstadt, Councilman Bob Zimmermann'spolitical lineage goes as far back as the late 1800's. "My great-grandfather, George Zimmerman Sr., served as Carlstadt's second mayor and was also a state assemblyman. My father was very involved in the local political scene and I was always interested in government on the local level." Bob took office in January of 2001 and immediately focused on quality of life issues facing the borough. "My first year on the Council I was the liason to the Zoning Board. This gave me a first hand look at the problems the town was facing concerning zoning. the proliferation of multi-family houses and illegal dwellings was changing the character of our town. Working closely with the Zoning and Planning boards, I feel that the governing body has turned the tide against developers and illegal landlords. Through tighter zoning restrictions and stricter enforcement against illegal apartments, we have been able to slow down the pace of development and protect the quality of life we have in our community." Bob also serves as the head of the Borough's recreation Committee. He feels strongly that the town's recreation programs are a vital part of our children's health and well being."I feel that the recreation programs we offer our children are second to none."
